Meet the Writer, Crystal McDougall
Hi! I’m Crystal. The rèsumè writer behind the screen.
You may wonder why anyone would ever get into rèsumè writing, well I’ve always been the go-to person for friends and family when it comes to résumés. I guess my career in recruitment made this a natural fit, and I discovered a genuine passion for helping others present their skills effectively. I quickly noticed common mistakes people make when trying to showcase their abilities, and my sharp eye for detail often caught grammatical errors and typos that even seasoned editors missed.
To better serve others, I became a Certified Résumé Strategist through the Career Professionals of Canada in 2023. This training and certification felt like the perfect fit, helping me refine the skills I already had and formalize my on-the-job experience. I am also a member of the National Rèsumè Writers Association.
As I explored the résumé writing industry, I was frustrated by how many writers relied on outdated techniques. Most hadn’t worked in recruitment professionally for over a decade and weren’t considering modern tools like AI and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Seeing people spend hundreds, or even thousands, on ineffective résumés motivated me to take action.
That’s when McDougall Consulting was born.
It’s important to me that McDougall Consulting remains a part-time venture, allowing me to stay deeply connected to modern technical recruitment through my full-time role as a Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist in the Cybersecurity industry. This approach also enables me to offer services at an affordable rate, ensuring that job seekers, especially those currently unemployed, can access high-quality support.
